On Wednesday, February 3rd, we hosted our first Public Good App House demo event of 2021 with GetCalFresh from Code for America, Share the Meal from the UN World Food Programme, Flashfood, OpenMeal, and Meal Connect 2.0 from Feeding America as they demo'd their apps addressing food insecurity. Moderated by Amanda Namayim from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, you’ll walk away learning which tech for good apps can help access discounted food, eliminate food waste, assist those experiencing food insecurity and more.

Check out the chat transcript below, and you can see the recording with slides here.

Below is a condensed version of the chat transcript from the event. As I get the recording and slides, I'll include them here as well.

From Amanda Namayi to Everyone:  11:22 AM

GoGettaz - https://gen-africa.com/gogettaz/

From Grace Song to Everyone:  11:22 AM

There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation in communities on various food labels used (ie. use by date vs. sell by date). Does Flashfood also help educate and clarify this info to better inform consumers?

From Diane Tilstra to All Panelists:  11:23 AM

Any idea when this will come to Pacific region?

From Wilson to All Panelists:  11:23 AM

Super impressive, great job!

From Tim Turner SATISFEED to All Panelists:  11:23 AM

From Erika Larson to All Panelists:  11:24 AM

How does Flashfood work with food banks, who are also competing to rescue food from the waste stream?

From Grace Song to Everyone:  11:24 AM

From Jim Wells to All Panelists:  11:24 AM

How do you ensure that a Flashfood customer only takes what they've paid for?

From Kathy to Everyone:  11:24 AM

Yes, I’d be a bit concerned that this app might interrupt the flow of fresh food to food shelves, where people in crisis who need food can get it for free? It would be interesting to see the overall systems-level impact

From Shaelina Holmes to Everyone:  11:24 AM

Thank you for the word “dignified” in your remarks. More people are accessing food banks now in the pandemic that have never had food insecurity before. No one should feel embarrassed to get free food in America especially when we have so much waste of food.

From Charlie Costello to Everyone:  11:55 AM

How might we take some of the food that has to be disposed of an get it out of the landfills and into a compost bin? Too much greenhouse gas produced in the landfills.

From Diane Tilstra to All Panelists:  11:58 AM

Really impressed with the technology that has been created. Please don’t disregard Boomers because they are not digital natives. They are eager to use their wealth to cure the issue of food insecurity. Solicit grant funds from Agency on Aging to encourage outreach to teach elders how to use these apps!

From Tanya Rodriguez-Hodges to All Panelists:  11:58 AM
