We're updating our site to improve your experience. We apologize for any issues that may occur.
For those of you who don't know me, I am the former founder and manager of this community, and I now work on a different team at TechSoup, the newest division of our organization, Caravan Studios. I wanted to let you all know that our team, which focuses on building apps for social benefit, has been selected as a finalist for the Partnership for Freedom Re:Imagine Opportunity challenge: http://www.partnershipforfreedom.org/finalists/
Our first app, is live
and in the windows marketplace. And this app, SafeNight,
which supports victims of Domestic Violence by helping to crowd-fund hotel
rooms when there are no available shelter beds, has been selected as 1 of 12
finalists in the Reimagine: Opportunity Challenge from the
Partnership for Freedom that is seeking to apply innovative solutions to the
issue of human trafficking. We plan to expand the app to support
We were made aware of Humanity United’s Partnership For
Freedom; ReImagine: Opportunity in the past 6 weeks, and decided it would fit
well with the direction that we wanted SafeNight to go in, so we were delighted
to hear this news of being selected as one of 12 finalists.
I wanted to share this success with this community because we’re
excited, and in the case that you or your colleagues know of others working in
the anti-trafficking field that we should get to know, we’d love an
introduction. The Re:Imagine Opportunity is a unique challenge, where we are
encouraged to work with other finalists, to share resources and information,
and possibly join forces with them, with the ultimate goal of finding a
solution to support victims of human trafficking.
Our project proposes to develop
a mobile service to be used to fund urgent, on-demand shelter for human
trafficking survivors. You can read the full text of our proposal here: http://www.slideshare.net/caravanstudios/reimagine-opportunity-tsgcaravanch…
meantime, we'd love it if you'd continue to spread the word. Here are a couple

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Caravan Studios, a division of TechSoup
FRANCISCO-BASED ORGANIZATION NAMED FINALIST IN PARTNERSHIP FOR FREEDOM
Competition Seeks New Ideas to Support
Survivors in the United States
[SAN FRANCISCO, CA] – Dec. 16, 2013 – San Francisco-based
organization Caravan Studios, a division of TechSoup Global, has been named as
a finalist in the first round of the Partnership for Freedom, a competition
seeking innovative ideas to better care for survivors of modern-day slavery in
the United States. Its proposal was submitted in collaboration with
Dallas-based Aidmatrix Foundation.
Caravan Studios and Aidmatrix joined together to submit
SafeNight, a concept that will support the provision of on-demand emergency
shelter for human trafficking survivors. By
creating a mechanism that engages individual donors to fund emergency,
on-demand hotel placements, SafeNight will increase the availability of
emergency shelters for human trafficking survivors; provide an opportunity for
additional services and support to be offered by case managers; and provide
data for the field on the real needs for shelter. The joint entry was selected from more
than 160 submissions representing 260 applying organizations.
Today, tens of thousands of people in the U.S. are living in
some type of modern-day slavery. Although efforts to combat this crime have
increased in recent years, care and recovery support for survivors remains
inadequate. The Partnership for Freedom’s first Challenge, Reimagine:
is looking for creative, sustainable ways to address three critical issues
faced by human trafficking survivors: sustainable housing, economic
empowerment, and social services. Two additional challenges will be launched in
2014 and 2015 to address other ways of combating human trafficking.
“We are excited to be finalists in the Reimagine:
Opportunity Challenge and to get the chance to learn more about innovations in
the anti-trafficking field,” said Marnie Webb, CEO of Caravan Studios. “When we
started understanding the scope of human trafficking in the U.S., we were
stunned by the lack of emergency shelter for survivors. We want to change that
“Agencies that serve
the needs of survivors of human trafficking are in great need of on-demand
funding, especially to handle the unpredictable surges in the number of those
who need shelter on any given day,” said Keith Thode, CTO and COO of the
Aidmatrix Foundation. “We’re happy to be able to bring Virtual Aid Drive, our
tool for donation management and a part of SafeNight, to this community.”
Caravan Studios and Aidmatrix, along with twelve other
finalists, will participate in an Innovation Workshop in Washington, D.C. in
January 2014 to further develop their ideas. The final winners will be
announced in Spring 2014 and will receive funding to begin piloting their

And here I thought you were just slacking off these days....! Boy was I wrong!!! Caravan looks like an awesome place and I don't use that over-used term lightly. :-)
Can you let me know when "Range" is released? I know a small org in San Diego that may find that very useful.
Just wanted to let you know that we still haven't released Range, but will alert you when we do.
